100 years ago these sludge-tanks allowed the sewage from East-London to settle. When the tanks were full, trucks would take the dirt away to be used as fertiliser. When the Markfield pump was shut down these tanks were taken out of service.

These days the tanks are covered with grafiti and the occasional car-wreck.
